Holly Holm is one of the women's bantamweight division's best prospects. As a former professional boxer, and currently undefeated in mixed martial arts, Holm has already received an offer from the UFC. However, as her boxing coach Mike Winklejohn explained, it wasn't right at the moment but he's confident Holm will transition to the UFC soon:

As Holly Holm looks to extend her professional MMA record to 6-0 Friday night, the question remains just how far "The Preacher's Daughter" is from fighting in the UFC.

According to her long-time coach Mike Winkeljohn, the UFC has already offered her a deal.

"We have talked to the UFC a few times already," Winkeljohn told MMAFighting.com. "We're just a little far apart on making the deal. We're just waiting for the UFC to make the right deal, and we're ready to go."

Once Dana or Joe Silva actually see her fight, they'll up their budget a bit and get her in there.

Her striking is off the charts good, it's highly likely she is thee best female striker at 135 in or out of the UFC.

Her grappling is reported as very good as well.

The UFC has the right to offer whatever they want. Unless there is someone offering more, or you can build your personal brand outside of the UFC somehow (Rousey), then the pay is determined by them.

That is why I believe competition is important. When the analogy is made stating that no other major sports organization has competition it is misleading. Every other organization has individually owned franchises that compete for the athlete's services which is why the pay gets to sometimes outlandish figures.

For now, the UFC is doing exactly what they need to be doing, maximizing profits and investing in expanding their brand dominance.

Wow based on what we have been seeing it looks like the UFC lowballs the fuck out of everyone.

Why shouldnt they? Its a good business practice to get an asset or a performer for less than what you'd be willing to pay for it/them.

Good for her! Everyone should be doing this!

Fighters take note if everyone refuses to sign for shit money the UFC will be forced to pay more. The roster might shrink but who cares... When you make it to the big leagues it will financially be like you are in the big leagues. Nobody in the NFL/NBA/MLB is walking around talking about how absolutely broke they are. Phone Post 3.0

Srsly?  There's loads of broke athletes in pro sports.  They might not talk about it, but it's reported on all of the time.

Nader just because you fight for 500 bucks and dont care doesnt mean everyone should.  If you think that its a good practice to try and low ball athletes then i feel sorry for your career.

IMO The UFC should be willing to pay descent or good money to fighters that are worth it and Holms def is.  Too offer shit money and expect everyone to be so happy that you are even offereing a contract is bullshit.

Do you feel better about yourself now? You put me down and for no reason other than my opinion is different from yours. This response proves to me that you have ZERO experience in MMA as far as fighting and dealing with promotions. Every single MMA show on earth will offer you less than they are willing to pay you at first. They have a budget to operate with and their goal is to come in under budget. Thats how financial planning works. If you accept their first offer then thats on you. You are free to counter them with a higher dollar amount that you are willing to fight for. This is basic negotiation 101. If Holly Holm had never boxed I'd say she prob wouldve accepted their first offer, but she's used to the lime light and very comfortable with her abilities and knows what her value is and either flat out rejected their offer, or at least countered with an offer that was better for her. For all we know she could have been ecstatic about the amount they offered her but maybe didnt like the contract length or the number of fights on it.

Pitbull clearly doesn't understand the first thing about how business works.

You can also negotiate salary when you get hired for a regular job, for the same reason

Nader's point is it's good business practice from the businesses perspective. He obviously didn't mean it's good for fighters to get the lowest pay possible.
