UFC bantamweight Urijah Faber beat Michael McDonald decisivley in the co-main event of UFC on FOX 9 Saturday night. After coming up short in two title shots, "The California Kid" appears to be in place for a third one.

“Faber’s in this Vitor zone right now," said UFC president Dana White. "The older he gets, the better he gets. If you look at how good McDonald really is, and people were so excited for this fight, he literally shut Michael down the entire fight and finished him with a great performance.”

A look at the FUC bantamweight top 10
Champion: Dominick Cruz
1 Renan Barao (Interim Champion)
2 Urijah Faber
3 Michael McDonald
4 Raphael Assuncao
5 Eddie Wineland
6 Brad Pickett
7 Scott Jorgensen
8  TJ Dillashaw
9 Mike Easton
10 Takeya Mizugaki

Dominick Cruz and Renan "Barao" Pegado fight in the main event of UFC 169 in Newark, New Jersey, on Feb. 1, 2014.

Who do you think will win that one?

And how do you think he will do against Uirjah Faber?

Faber lost to Cruz in 2011 (and beat him in the WEC) and Barao in 2012, but is 4-0 since then. Further, Faber holds wins over the other top 5 fighers - McDonald, Assuncao, and Wineland.

In before someone calls this shot a "gift"

The man has earned this shot and I'm hoping he takes the belt next time. I think he beats Dom but Barao could be trouble.

The man is busy as hell.

In the time that Barao has defended his title twice since their fight, Urijah has fought and won 4 times.

4 wins in a row usually does put a guy in the title picture, especially when one of them is a finish against another top contender.

If you look at the list of fighters, he really is the #3 guy right now, and should slide in there after Cruz vs Barao.

You're proposing he cut another 10lbs? That's not safe.

Pretty hard to deny Urijah. He keeps beating everyone in that division except the champs so he's definitely earned his rematches.

You simply can't deny him at this point. 4 straight wins in one year and big ones at that, impressively. He is a living legend IMO, always exciting

Faber is legit. He loses his title shots but puts himself back in contention, legit.

The UnderGround, Mayor
jayduane - Title of this thread sounds very condescending. Faber fights often, wins convincingly and deserves the shot. Phone Post 3.0

Use of the word apparent was because Dana didn't say making it official and the Cruz vs. Barao fight could end in adraw or something.

I bet the UFC would love Cruz or Faber as champ over non-english speaking  Barao who cannot sell a fight.

I dislike Faber. Yes he has been gifted shots. But this division is pretty dam thin. He is next in line if Cruz and Barrao has a clear winner. I would not be surprised if Cruz loses he get an immediate rematch. Also an injury could really skew things to where is no title shot for Faber in over a year.

That all said it's all just hypothetical right now. UFC will make whatever the biggest money fight there is open at that time. Dana's word is useless until the contract is signed. Phone Post 3.0
