UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones recently appeared on  Washington DC's 106.7 The Fan, with Chad Dukes and Lavar Arrington. The call was precipitated by Jones support for the Cleveland Clinic Professional Fighters Brain Health Study and discussed the upcoming fight with Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 on April 26th.

"My last fight I had a really tough fight," said Jones as transcribed by MMAFighting. "I just won by decision. I just squeaked out a victory. I've been humbled. It's an empowering thing. It's a scary thing for [my opponents]. Now I'm taking my job more seriously than ever."

"I won't have to gameplan for [Teixeira]. "I'll just have to be aware of it and respect it. In Glover's last fight, you saw that. He was getting beat up. He had his back against the wall. He was covering up his face, kind of in the fetal or turtle position. He peeked up, saw that he had an opening, swung and got a knockout, which was extremely impressive. So Glover is someone I'm going to have to respect tremendously. He has knockout power in both his right hand and left hand. It's just going to be a really entertaining fight to watch."

"Anybody who pays attention to the sport knows who's coming, you know who's deserving. You've got to give Alexander Gustafsson the No. 1 contender spot behind Glover Teixeira. Then with the way Daniel Cormier has been performing, he's top three at the heavyweight division. Lets see how he competes at the light heavyweight division but with the tear he's been on, if he can continue that, it's unquestioned that he deserves a shot, as well.

"I really don't like [Cormier] too much, but right now he's coming across as being good for the sport. He's a really articulate guy. He's doing a lot of broadcasting and commentary. He's a winner and an Olympian. So even though I don't like him, I do respect what he's doing for our sport."

Listen to entire interview...

I'm glad to see that Jones has learned from his last fight. No way these comments can be twisted negatively. Phone Post 3.0

Also, great interview, good on Jones. He's got his head on straight and a good attitude.

Also, War Chad Dukes. Even though he's an asshole, and has blocked me on just about every form of social media, including XBox Live.

He said he thought he clearly won 3 rounds, which still can imply a very close fight Phone Post 3.0

Interdasting.. oh look, I'm a mud'er again.

Good to hear Jones admit it was a close fight. I, like many others, had Gus winning that fight.

The only rematch I'm interested in right now is jones vs gus.

That was one of my favorite fights in a very long time.

Hopefully both guys keep winning, I'd buy that ppv. Phone Post 3.0

One of the more level headed things I have read Jones state. He was fair and honest in his assessment and didn't come off as arrogant as he has in the past.

Some of you are totally underestimating Glover.

I'm not. He's basically Rampage with a better ground game. Phone Post 3.0

It's a refreshing thing to hear him be so candid. I scored that fight 48-47 Jones (rnds. 2,4,&5), but  rnd. 2 could've been easily scored for Gus. I can't wait to see the rematch.

I've been pretty critical but that was honestly refreshing to read and highly respectable. Between this and his comments about his realistic chances against Klitschko in a boxing match, well done.

I honestly do not hate Jones, or want to find reasons to dislike him. I really hope this pattern continues and is a sign of him maturity catching up to his talent. People complained there's nothing he could do to win over his haters, and maybe that's true of a fraction of them. But I've expressed strong dislike of Jones since he's become champ, and this Jones is exactly what modifies my opinion. Phone Post 3.0
