I get together with friends and buy and split all UFC PPV's.

We are diehards and we have been debating whether or not we feel like getting together and throwing 10 bucks a piece at UFC 170.

I told my buddies Fight Pass is free right now and everyone just yawned. I was the only one who even signed up for the free service.

I have been to six UFC events live and own plenty of VHS/DVD's and have chipped in with buddies on most PPV events since UFC 21 back in 1999.

Really don't feel like wasting $10 bucks to see Saturday's main card.

Maybe someone on here will do a play by play thread like was done back in the day.

Every stream I've watched is because I'm not going to buy it. If I couldn't stream it, or download it I'd go to a bar to watch it. And they've already paid the UFC. So if anything, bars have lost out on hundreds of my dollars because I just wouldn't watch if I had to pay 70 dollars every time.

So no..that's just not true. Phone Post 3.0

Bunch of people on this thread who have never even tried to make money off of content.

Obviously not 100% of the people who stream or download would have bought the ppv, but its also not 0%. Dont see how its even a debate that piracy hurts the ufc and all other content creators (including the fighters). Phone Post 3.0

Ufc should lower their ppv price points, they cannot compete with boxing, as showtime and HBO's product is far far superior. The card Saturday sucked ass. Fighters are slaves, and the sweat off their backs are used to fund the UFC's imperial world wide expansion.

This is not what we wanted 10 years ago, fuck the ufc. We will always have smaller promotions to watch even if the ufc were to fail. The ufc is not bigger than the sport, times ticking. Phone Post 3.0

Lets decrease the quality, increase the price, and then bitch and complain when people don't buy it. Makes perfect sense.

I guarantee they've also made a lot off of casual fans who streamed a card, got hooked, then started buying them.

UltraViolentRay - i love the assumption that everyone would be paying customers if they couldn't have gotten it for free.

i think they should assume that 0% of the people who "stole" it would have paid for it.

This. They might be lucky if 5% of streamers would buy the PPV if streaming wasn't available.

I think it would be safer to say they have lost millions because of a $50-$60 PPV cost which a lot of households can't afford on a regular basis

You're right, but shortsighted.

Radical public headlines such as this one is a clear ploy to manipulate government officials to allow them to sue streamers/protect their product more aggressively.

We know they didn't lose millions, as you've pointed out. But lawmakers don't know that - and they have always protected financial interests.

In my opinion, of course.

You have a good point about the games industry. They began to nerf their pirated games, so you only got a taste.

The UFC would be wise to create a freemium PPV model.

From the hip: Pay for full access, or stream but get no commentators, certain camera angles, more commercials, etc.

Someone the other day had an idea to make the cards available by the match. That was a very, very good idea.

I disagree. MAYBE a very small portion of people that stream would buy the event if there were no streams. Phone Post 3.0

They've lost millions by putting on shitty cards and being too cheap to pay their fighters. They are losing millions more due to Dana's big fucking mouth. I hope they lose their asses somehow. Shittiest bunch of knucklehead mobster owners this sport could have ever been cursed with.

UFC: We've lost 'millions and millions' to piracy

The UFC made headlines last night when a story broke that they shut down and sued a website offering pirated UFC content. Today a representative for the promotion gave more detail on their effort:

Individuals who settle sign a confidentiality agreement, said Lonstein, who declined to disclose figures on the typical dollar amount paid to the UFC. A recent report cited one unanswered lawsuit from a previous website target, Greenfeedz.com, that netted the promotion $11,948.70 in damages and legal fees.

Lonstein said pirates are sued on the basis of copyright law and the Communications Act of 1934, which regulates communications commerce domestically and abroad, but declined to go into further specifics about the UFC’s legal approach to curbing piracy.

She would not say how much money had been recovered as the result of the legal actions, but said the figure over the past year is “a fraction compared to what the UFC has lost with piracy.” UFC chief legal officer Kirk Hendrick said the promotion’s losses are “millions and millions” of dollars yearly.

“There’s no shortage, unfortunately, of people who will try to take a shortcut,” Hendrick said. “We have an obligation to our customers and those athletes to continue to pursue the people who don’t want to pay for the goods and services they receive.”

Am I the only one that caught the irony of that last statement in regards to what they pay, or more accurately what they dont pay the fighters?
