Who in your view had the quickest rise and fall in MMA? It could be someone who was champion, or a prospect that was a genuine contender, only to fall into obscurity.

Sokoujou is surely up there. Came out of nowhere into Pride sporting a 2-1 record. He blew through two of Pride's top middleweights with ease in Little Nog and Arona. He had huge hype coming into the UFC. At one point in time, the only reason anybody knew Glover Teixeira's name was because he held a win over Sokoujou.

Coming into the UFC, it was genuinely a toss-up between fans on who'd win between him and Machida. At the time, Machida still had the mystique about him but was definitely considered legit with his win over Franklin in Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye.

Sadly it was not to be for Sokoujou, as he went 1-3 in the UFC and now barely sports a .50 record. He's pretty much used as cannon fodder for oversees events to build the profile of whoever the local favourite is. Crazy to think at one point this guy was considered the next great light heavyweight.

Another guy I can think of is Evan Dunham. He went 4-0 in the UFC, beating Marcus Aurelio (who had a win over Gomi) and Tyson Griffin. He then fought Sean Sherk in the muscle shark's last fight, losing a close decision. A decision that many felt should have gone to Dunham.

After that, it was all downhill for him. A guy we thought could be a potential champ at one point is now 3-3 after the Sherk fight. Consistency seems to be Dunham's enemy.

Who else can you guys think of?

Roger Huerta - never really a contender, but he was being pushed hard by the UFC and had a ton of hype, then lost a couple of fights and then kind of fell off the map.

The crows second stint in the UFC, seemed like he had put it all together, had a trademark cut stoppage, the spinning back kick win over Mccarthy, worked his way to a title fight with Franklin only to be brutalised for 5 rounds and he faded in to the regional circuit and tko. Always loved watching him fight but Franklin changed him... Phone Post 3.0

Yeah shoguns fall was heavily due to injuries, and he did also win the UFC title afterwards, which isn't exactly a small task.

I agree. Winning the UFC LH title is super easy, anyone can do it.

Shogun got owned by forrest and was gifted a 2nd title shot, and caught machida with a lucky punch.
Since then hes got destroyed by jones, gus, and sonnen. Phone Post 3.0

Fucking a it's not a small task. Shogun has had an incredible career. Take away his win in Pride and he's still one of the GOATs.

I wouldn't really qualify this, biggest potential, yes. Terrel never really fell, he got injured and dropped, nothing to fall off of, just a very bright future that took an unlucky turn. Phone Post 3.0

he was the first that came to mind, had a ton of hype, somehow lost to tanner, fought 1 more time and then disappeared.
