Kim Jong Uno - I disagree. I look at the UFC like a bad poker player, a donkey. Loose, arrogant, aggressive, a good run of lucky cards can make this donkey look awesome and powerful but in the long run, when everything evens out, the donkey is going to fuck it all up and ends up busted.

The lucky cards in this instance are Forrest and Stephan's memorable fight, Lesnar deciding to become a fighter and being initially successful, Cyborg being popped before she could separate Ronda's face from her body, etc. The donkeys are sitting on a huge stack, but are in the process of pissing it all away. Only time will tell if they can pull their heads out of their asses and keep it together

Top notch analysis right there.

No need to change much when there is little to no competition. They should remember, though, when everyone had a blackberry in their pocket Phone Post 3.0

Kim Jong Uno - Don't be stupid. Why would I want the UFC to go broke? I want them to do better, for the fighters' sake. They are playing fast and loose with people's lives and welfare, and it's going to catch up with them.

Duuurrrr they keep gettin richer and you broke, you sound like one of those ghetto people who cries about haters, go somewhere else with that silly shit

So when do you predict the collapse happens? Griffin Bonnar was 9 years ago Phone Post 3.0

It's hard to say. How long will people put up with a product that manipulates the competition, cuts fighters who win and keeps fighters who lose who are willing to get their brains beat in for entertainment's sake, promotes a guy who never fought, slanders their champions, handicaps their ability to make money from sponsors, etc. You tell me genius

Do people think downward spiralling numbers are limited to the UFC and their ppv model and tv deal?

Fact is shit loads of people are on the net and have stopped watching as much tv, also it's hard to get people to pay 60 dollars for a couple hours entertainment when they can load up a we page and entertain themselves for as long as they want for free.

Tbh the UFC is moving in the right direction with fight pass but it needs to levy up the costs to run things with monetising ads, etc, on a lot of sites I go on the UFC is the most talked about thing on there, I would be very interested if there was a way to find out how many people stream or download events.

Tv in General is dying not the UFC. Phone Post 3.0

By ideas you mean complain about the sport on a daily basis?

It's the same thing every day, "I'm just not into this sport any more," "watered down cards," "Dana White should step down," "Fight Pass sucks"

I thought this board was about the sport, where we'd discuss fighters, styles, and matchups. Instead we get posts on ratings, he said/she said, "I didn't even know the fights were on today even though there was 300 commercial trailers from the last event on it, and other bs.

Talk about the fights from last Saturday's stacked card, I haven't seen one post about Ray Borg vs Dustin Ortiz, nothing on Derrick Lewis, nothing on the fact that Werdum completely outstruck Travis Browne, or a potential matchup with Cain in Mexico

Where's the threads on Jones vs Glover Teixeira? Rockhold, Jim Miller, Anthony Johnson vs Phil Davis, Joseph Benavidez and Takanori Gomi on the prelims next week. Guess that's a watered down card so nobody cares

Whatever

I agree with you 100% that this place would be better without those types of threads, however, not everyone see things that way. What some people call "bitching", others call discussion. By the way, why don't you create some of those threads you want to see. I think people would jump in and enjoy a change from the usual negativity.

I'm kinda new to the site, if I find something interesting I'll post it, but this place is flooded with negativity and I find it irritating, sorry if I come off as a dick.

The UFC will continue to do well making boat loads of money, travelling around the world and finding more ways to separate fans and their cash.

The problem is that they are becoming the McDonald's of sports. Once upon a time McDs sold an amazing big, juicy hamburger made of real meat. Now their "burger" is about the size of a silver dollar and tastes like the cow manure it's probably made of.

Bottom line is that McDonald's makes a fortune by giving customers the absolute minimum they can get away with and still make a sale. The UFC is following suit. Successful? Absolutely, but the "product" is crap.

Kneeblock - A few years ago when Zuffa announced they were going global and then got the infusion of oil money from Abu Dhabi I knew the UFC would last a long time.

The organization has no real motivation to change its pay structure as long as it can replicate its model in developing markets. With the reality show theme and now a digital platform, the brand can be easily exported.

The one thing I can see killing off the UFC is if virtual reality takes off. Then the target demographic will just get into gaming too hard core too care about anything real. Phone Post 3.0

While you is my boy you are talking crazy (well, I leave out the virtual reality thing cause that was REALLY crazy...)

The UFC #'s are fucking plummetting. They are heading DOWN in a big way with no end in sight. Unfortunately for the fans, it is such a cash cow for the Fertitta's personally that they probably won't sell because it is just a wash, rinse and repeat money printing machine for them. So there is no pressing need for them to abandon ship even though they are struggling to keep at the same revenue numbers they had in 2010 even though their revs should have tripled in size since then with the FOX deal and all the mainstream attention.

Until someone comes along and starts to get close to their numbers they won't see a bad margin, even with the expense of international expansion, so they will plug along making a mess out of MMA for years to come......

I may or may not have been under certain influences when posting the VR part.

But anyway, I agree that numbers are heading down domestically, but if you can spread the love globally in a market like China, India or if they continue to grow in Brazil, the viewing habits of the US will become less relevant.

But you could be right. It might just be that they'll sell and the sport will contract. What I'm saying is the model could gain a lot of steam if properly replicated and last a long time.

That oil money for 10% of the UFC was used to bail out the failing Station Casinos that took a huge hit during the recession. That wasn't expansion. That was self preservation by Frankie and Enzo.

The thrill is gone.

Even the Brazil events can't fill a room. The UFC can't sell their product overseas. They can give it away on Globo or hand out tickets in Germany, but no one outside of the US, Canada and Brazil really care, and they're starting to care less and less all the time.

this exactly.

they are "expanding" because they have to.

What a silly statement. Every company has to expand Phone Post 3.0

Station Casinos never expanded past the "Vegas Locals Joint" business model. There isn't a Station in Macau or Atlantic City.
