Megalodon can't swim upside down. Orcas can. That is how female orcas currently kill 20' great whites with ease.. Phone Post 3.0

Part of what made Megalodons such ferocious killers was that they, unlike modern sharks, could in fact swim upside down. They could also swim sideways, and even backwards.

MDF tm - I watched a documentary from the 70s about a 25' great white that was terrorizing a small beach town on the east coast one summer and the local chief of police with the help of two other men hunted it down. Phone Post 3.0
They should make a film about that. Scary stuff. Phone Post 3.0

Pontious_Pilates - I don't understand why people think that just because the ocean is so deep, that it means there is something huge down there. Based on all the evidence I have seen, the deeper you go, the smaller everything gets.

Whales and giant squid would argue against that...

Whales apparently dive down to as deep as 5,000 to 10,000 feet.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/03/140326-cuvier-beaked-whale-record-dive-depth-ocean-animal-science/

I also found this really interesting on giant squid:

http://blogs.discovery.com/show-news/2013/01/top-10-startling-giant-squid-facts.html

"#2. As gigantic as they are, giant squid are really hard to find.

“It’s really hard to find a giant squid in its natural habitat,” said Leslie Schwerin. “They’re really deep. 2,000 to 3,000 feet down. That’s not a hospitable environment for us, so we have to go down in submersibles, which are loud and have lights and scare them away.

“I imagine that it’s probably really hard to find a giant squid because we don’t know how to behave or survive in their environment, so we need all this equipment that’s loud, bright and it all scares them away. I think they’re shy creatures. They’re solitary creatures, so they don’t swim in schools. Even though there may be millions of them, they’re spread out throughout the seas, and it is like a needle in a haystack.”

Readers Digest:  Giant squid are huge, and near impossible to find.  We never filmed one till 2006.  Just rare dead carcasses prior to that time.

Which leads me to believe there could be all kinds of strange, and perhaps very large, critters still hiding in the unexplored depths of our oceans.

This. They possessed a form of backwards stealth propulsion known as a "caterpillar drive". Phone Post 3.0

Los Angeles - So in theory this Megalodon beast was big enough to eat whales? How many of these were roaming around back in the day?

Thank god all these creatures are extict. As much as they fascinate me us humans were not match for some of them. Phone Post 3.0

59 foot, looking like a stouter version of a great white.

This is true

Megalodon are commonly referred to as the "hummingbirds" of the ancient seas in most marine biology circles... Phone Post 3.0
