JR's podcast has been on the iTunes top 10 for weeks.

This week he broke down the UFC's failing business model.

I thought he made some interesting points.

Brian Rule - thanks.. any cliffsnotes?

Flyweights can't sell tickets, shouldn't headline

No stars. There's no Titos, Chucks, Lesnars, GSPs

Events have been bad.

Buyrates have taken a nose dive.

Programming is unwatchable.

Agreed about the no stars because the fans don't like Jones, they don't know who Wiedman is and the HW champ fights once in a blue moon.

With all due respect to JR, I don't think Zuffa should be taking too many cues from a former professional wrestling commentator.

In pro-wrestling it's all about the big bodybuilders - the little guys are usually just there for the novelty and the girls are a gimmick. Phone Post 3.0

When Jim was on O&A he talked about the lack of Bushido spirit in today's MMA. The man invented "slobber knocker!"

He also ragged pretty hard on the smaller weight classes.

He was VP of WWF in the late 90's.

I think he knows a thing or two about how to generate interest in a product.

Regardless of JR's knowledge of pro-wrestling, my opinion is the sport of MMA should not be taking these sorts of business cues from pro-wrestling.

- Small guys are boring so keep the lighter weight stuff to a minimum (unless they're Mexican and wear a mask, but even then no one really cares)
- Women's fights aren't really serious. Women are catty and petty. It's just a tits and ass thing.

What next? All fighters should cut scripted promos? Scripted drama? Scripted fights? Phone Post 3.0

JR is correct.

170 and up = sales

155 and under = decrease in care to the broader fan base (obviously the hardcore fans love these groups too)

These are opinions... The ppv thing is off also because they're moving away from the ppv model, They seem to be growing globally as well Phone Post 3.0

Didn't think UFC business model was based around Tito, Chuck, Lesnar, GSo or any individual fighter.Star fighters come and go while new ones pop up.  From Royce to Couture to Tito to GSP etc.

Will never understand why people act like it's easy to create these guys or that the promotion has anything to do with creating them.  WWE hasn't had the level of success it has since Stone Cold and The Rock were stars.  Why don't they just make some more if it's that easy?
