Dont forget his domination of Gomi although that was not prime form Gomi and Gomi was coming off his first loss, it was still pure domination of the other LW GOATs.

Yeah, BJ may have showed his full form in his 2nd LW run with Sherk, Diego and KenFlo and Stevension but beating Hughes still has to be the top achievement. People just dont remember that it was a LW that went up and tapped out the WW champ who was on a tear.

There is no example of a guy now moving up to finish a long time champ at a higher weight.

Would be like TJ running thru Aldo or Weidman running thru Jones.

disbeliever -
Seraldo Babalu - BJ Marinovich was a fucking savage. Why did he quit training with Marv? Did it just take too much out of him?

IIRC he said the Marinovich's wanted him to focus 100% on conditioning and not MMA or BJJ.

And given that Penn has just stated that he no longer has the, "energy" to fight at the level of these guys and apply his will and technique, the Marinovich's may very well have been the catalyst that cemented that "peak" era for Penn.

Even if they did spend, "too much" time on conditioning, it's not like after a lifetime of training and professional fighting Penn is going to forget how to take the back or maneuver someone into an armbar, but he DOES need the sustained energy to be able to DO those things.

destroying gomi, then beating bang in a few seconds, going toe to toe with machida, then comming back and ragdolling the greatest welterweight at the time(hughes), and finally giving gsp one of his toughest fights.

Stevenson, Sherk, Florian, Sanchez, those fights were all BJ at his best. Finishing Sanchez in the 5th and Florian in the 4th when all of his career his cardio was in question, that was the best BJ imo.

His first win over Hughes is one of the biggest upsets of all time.

Also, consider that BJ pretty much drew with GSP the first time, came close to finishing Hughes again and then got injured, drew Fitch as well.

This is why people are idiots to discount BJ's work at WW.
