What were your experiences? I've applied for a study abroad program through my school that will allow me to study in Clarmont-Ferand, France for 3 weeks this summer. The total cost is about 5,000 with tuition, airfare, room/board and travel. I would be in class for the first two weeks, with two free weekends to go anywhere I please. My french right now is so-so, I figure that it would be really good after this. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

lefonquey1, I must appologize. I run a tight ship here, but sometimes a peasant pulls a fast one and tries to confuse a new visitor to my TravelGround. That sounds like a good plan to me. At first 5 thousand seemed a little high, but counting tuition, airfare and room and board, it's not so bad. I will send along security with you for your journey in exchange for your returning with an artifact I'm looking to aqquire. HELWIG OVERLORD OF THE TRAVELGROUND BANE OF THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS

I am sure that it would be fun as hell however 5k seems extremely expensive. I spent 2 months in London for essentially the same amount.

3 weeks seems a bit short to master a language doesn't it? 5k US? I guess US college fees are a lot higher though...no comment from me really.

Axl_Rose is spending 3 months in Brunnenburg Castle, in Italy. That's one semester, at just under 2K. I leave Sept. 1st.

Study abroad is an awesome opportunity, and everyone should do it! That said, please try to keep your expectations of your language skill realistic... In 3 weeks, you're not going to come out fluent if you're not already. What you will get is a much better feel for the language, and assuming you take every possible opportunity to speak French, and don't speak your native language AT ALL (including on the phone, or on the net) for the 3 weeks you're there, the immersion will help you out with learning vocabulary, etc. Have fun! Also to the person going to Italia! (My qualifications: I did a 1-year high school exchange in Finland, and a 1-year study abroad in the USA, and was a pre-departure counsellor and a hosted-student counsellor for a high school exchange organisation for years.)

Anyone been to Cuzco, Peru before. I will be going to study Spanish for 6 weeks in June and July. I hope to find a decent gym to train at while I am there. Any tips or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I stayed a year in New Zealand while in high school. Cost me about 7 grand (US) through YFU. I definitely recommend it.
