Chris I have seen this quite a bit in some grappling tourneys. Some dude is in a closed guard, stands up and wraps his hand around the guy on bottoms throat. What do you think of that stuff? It seems to only slightly bother the guy with guard. Wouldn't that leave your arms open to attack?

You can do it from the mount to set up the arm well but fromthe guard you are looking to get arm barred unless you are antisipating it. You can use one hand on the throat and strike with the other but careful from the guard. I will show you tomorrow from the mount.

I thought it would be ok from the mount. You have always shown me the forarm across the throat to set up the arm bar from the mount. I didn't think it looked all that great from someone's guard, especially in sub tourney without striking.

Just curious, but what was the guy in the guard doing with his hips and his elbows? May have something to do with it.

MOre than likely it would be to make the bottom guy attempt an arm-bar, at least to popen his guard. just a thought

ummm yeahhh, from what I saw it wasn't very effective in helping anyone to pass the guard. I am sure that was the motive.
