I was thinking about this and also saw Glock4life's thread... What TMA techniques have you used or seen someone use in a fight, also if known what kind of set up was used to use them?

Straight vertical fist. Snap kick to knee. My first instructor claimed he laid a guy out with a back fist.

Being an 8 year police vet, I have used several wrist locks, arm lock/drags and some open hand strikes "on the job" effectively. Not every single time, but most of the time control & restraining techniques have been my bread and butter out there. I should add that I have had more success due to the fact that i'm generally bigger and stronger than most resisting subjects.

Hope this didn't steer your thread off topic.

Hapkido has served me very well.

saw a dude ko'd by a knife hand to the neck. I've stopped a couple scuffles with a ridge hand in the nuts.

Saw a guy get knocked out silly with a backfist I once knocked someone out with a crescent kick to the head. Spun him around 180 degrees.

Spinning back fist - I had always laughed at this technique until a guy hit me with it during a drill. If I hadn't been wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time, I believe it would have knocked me silly. Kote gaeshi - I've seen it work a few times.

LOL - the motorcycle helmet thingy was for a drill which went as follows: a) one person (the "attacker") wore a motorcycle helmet and boxing gloves b) the other person (the "defender") wore bag gloves c) the "attacker" basically was supposed to go ape-shit and go berzerk on the "defender" (thus simulating a "street assault") while the "defender" tried to defend himself. This didn't happen in a TMA class but the spinning back fist was something out of TMA which I had always considered impractical and too telegraphic...until it hit me upside the head.
