Heres some pics of winter fishing here in SW FL from my little boat. All buddies I took out fishing and the last one is my boy. I do a lot of tailing reds that time of year.

i'm not the most knowledgeable fisherman yet. so are you fishing fresh or salt and what kind of fish are all those, and what did you catch them with?

Sweet! Just rub my nose in it, why don't ya! Chris, that's saltwater. Fishes 1,3,and 4 are redfish( or channel bass, depending on what part of the country you're from), and fish No. 2 is a snook. Which either rhymes with book or fluke, depending on how smart you are.:) Both are great fish. To me, the snook has a personality a lot like a largemouth.

We say snook are like bass on steroids. Look at this big ole mosey slob caught by one of the guys on our fishing team.

Those sure look a lot more fun to catch than the 6 inch snappers I was catching yesterday.

I live for bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, red, ladyfish, amber jack etc.. bonefish.... why do you torment me so silvery shadow?

Bull, I have no idea, we dont have them here. BUT if you want to go out on the gheenoe for a day of poling for reds Ill be happy to take you out. On My best day last winter, we got 8 legit tailers in the morning then another 20 outta pot holes and cuts. All in about 3 1/2 hours. Granted we did use shrimp which makes it easier but no matter what theres something special about getting a real tailer. Id rather catch 1 tailer than 5 under the bushes.

Brass, That happened in the area I live in infact my wife knows the daughter of the lady that died (RIP). I really don't worry about the gators too much cause I rarely see them. I do worry about sharks once in a while when Im wading though. One time a long long time ago I was wading and had a snook on a stringer. I felt a sudden strong pull so looked around me and saw a shark taking a bite outta that snook. That was kinda freaky. It wasnt a big shark but that doesnt mean bigger ones werent around.

Bull, flycasting must be tough with that cape on.:) Fish, that's exactly the reason I modify my stringers. I was wading in the Mississippi River. (During the summer months, the river gets low enough so that saltwater from the Gulf, which is heavier, backs upriver. The resulting confluence draws big numbers of all kinds of fish.) I'd caught a few reds, about a dozen specks, and a couple flounders( one of which was easily the biggest I'd ever caught- a real doormat). I was working up the edge of the dropoff into the channel, when I felt a HUGE yank on my stringer, and the water was churning like a cavitating outboard, soaking me. When I turned, I saw a BIG gray torpedo thrashing back and forth. I got the stringer off in a couple of seconds, but it felt a lot longer than that. A group fishing out of a boat nearby saw the shark a few minutes later. It turned out to be a bull shark between 8 and 9 feet long. That's why I make my stringers 20 feet long. It's also why I bring a change of underwear.

Rock_o, I agree with you there. I would never give up living here. A few years ago the company I work wanted me to move up north and take another position. I told them they didnt have enough money, my wife agreed. I honestly wouldn't move up north for a million dollars a year but thats just me. What good would a million dollars be if I couldnt enjoy it and if I couldn't go out for tailers in the winter I wouldn't be enjoying life. They wouldn't offer me a million but they would have given me 100gs a year more. Simply not a chance.
