Joao Pierini is proud to present the 2nd California Open 2004 invitation Jiu-Jitsu Submission Grappling Tournament Dear Friends: I would like to cordially invite you and your academy to attend and compete in the 2nd California Open Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Submission Grappling Tournament to be held in Northern California. The event will be held at Half Moon Bay High School. Saturday and Sunday, November 20th and 21st, 2004. Over 300 athletes will compete in the white, blue, purple, brown, black, and professional black belt divisions. Cash prizes will be awarded for professional black belts. Athletes from all over the world including Brazil, Canada, Japan, and Europe are expected to come. The gym can hold three mats. To insure that the tournament runs smoothly we recomend that all athletes and coaches be at the tournament at 9:00am on saturday. Divisions for children will start at 10:00AM in the morning on Saturday. Followed by men's white belt, men's blue belt and so on. Super Fights will last 20 minutes featuring some great athletes. Sunday will be the No-Gi matches and will go in the same order. We are working on an online registration form, which is expected to be completed by early November. Weigh in before your match on the day of the competition. If you are over your listed weight you will be disqualified.(No exceptions.) If this should happen you will be able to sign up for open class competition. Competitor medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places *** Team Trophies *** For 1st,2nd,3rd,4th, and 5th Places Points system as follows 1st place medal = 10 points 2nd place medal = 5 points 3rd place medal = 3 points Points for both days will be counted after competition ends on Sunday. only two divisions 1) Highly Skilled and 2)Deadly Damn I better get working cuz I'm only at the "temporarily retarded" level as of right now...gone be some long nights in the future for me... :(

Mount – 4 points 6. Back – 4 points 7. Tap out – end of match In the event of a tie at the end of regulation time, the referee will award the match to the fighter closest to scoring a point. In the event neither opponent is closer to a point, it will be left up to the referee’s discretion to award the match. Legal Techniques: 1. All arm, shoulder and wrist locks. 2. Any choke (except on wind pipe). 3. Strait ankle locks (all levels). 4. Inner toeholds & Kneebars (Intermediate & up). 5. All leg locks (advanced only). Non – Allowed holds: 1. Heel hooks - Will only be allowed in No Gi advanced division. 2. Digit (Finger) Manipulation 3. Punching 4. kicking 5. Slamming from guard. Competition Rules: 1. All competitors will bow or shake hands prior to their match. 2. Competitors will wear t-shirt or rash gaurd and shorts wrestling shoes (optional) 3. Competitors will observe and follow all of the referee’s instructions. 4. All competitors will bow or shake hands after their match. Point Deduction – Disqualification: 1. Violation of the above mentioned rules 2. Un-sportsmanlike activity – i.e. use of profanity, gestures, argumentative or belligerent behavior towards referee, spectators, opponents, or organizers. 3. Striking 4. Application of illegal holds. 5. Purposefully trying to evade contact or leaving the contest area during a match. 6. Stalling after a verbal warning. 7. Lifting and throwing and opponent while passing guard. 8. Failure to release submission hold after opponent taps out. Regulation Information:

1. It is the responsibility of the competitor to find out when his/her match will take place. 2. Any competitor who does not show up before his/her match will aoutomatically forfeit the match and registration. 3. The competition organizers are not liable for any injury and/or accident involving competitors. The competition will be properly insured. 4. This tournament will follow the official rules of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. The rulesare designed to protect competitors and improve the level of Jiu-Jitsu competitions. California Open Jiu-Jitsu Submission Grappling Tournament 2004 The 2nd edition of the California Open Jiu-Jitsu Submission Grappling Tournament 2004 is starting to heat up. The California Open Tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday November 20th and 21st, 2004 in the Gym of Half Moon Bay High School located at Lewis Foster Drive in Half Moon Bay, CA. The tournament will start Saturday (WITH GI) and Sunday (NO GI) at 10:00 am and will have children, adult, master, senior, and women, divisions from white to black belt and from novice to advance levels. The II California Open already has some great matches and academies from all over the country will be present and fighting to show our strength and conquer our share of Gold!
