Do you train in BJJ? I know that the NFA wrestling team holds open mat a few times a week in the off season, and that's the only place in Newburgh I can think of where someone could train in grappling. I don't know of any BJJ/grappling schools near Newburgh.

That's cool. Yeah, NYMAG is in Poughkeepsie, Gene Simco is the head instructor there.

Joe,

I have a friend who trains at Combined MA and loves it. I have never been there myself - which is silly since I live in Astoria...LOL. I hear good things about them. Jungle Gym run by Justin Garcia is also great place. Cool folks, no egos. We have cross-trained with them as well.

My program, New York Combat Sambo, shares space with NYKKgym (listed above). It is a great training environment. We are 2 seperate programs but, often cross-train with each other. My program trains for MMA, Sport and Combat Sambo, submission wrestling (no-gi), and weapons.  We also co-host the Tri-state MMA league which is only one month old but, growing fast. It runs every other Sunday and is open to all. Next date is February 13 from 12:30 - 2:30.

Just as a side note, we changed our name to New York San Da Gym (www.NYSanDa.com if you want to look at the new web site) and expanded our program. Steve's Combat Sambo is still at our location, and we are cross training even more with them! And the league is off the hook! Growing huge and doing great things!!!

I heard Sean was not at Ground Control anymore...I could be wrong. To my knowledge the school is definitely still there. I only know the website though.

Staten Island Judo and Jujitsu Academy.  Great school and instruction. We cross train with them often.

For anyone in Queens, NYC, I recommend checking out Hidden Fist Martial Arts Academy. The instructor is extremely talented. You can reach him at 718-460-2364. The school is located at 33-45 Francis Lewis Blvd, right by PowerHouse Gym. It's in Bayside by the way.

I am looking for a school close to Fort Drum/Watertown. I just moved here from Fort Sill, Oklahoma. I am aware of Tai Kai down in Syracuse, but was wondering if there is anything closer?
