Attention MMA fans in Washington State - When a recent bill was put before the Washington State Senate it contained language that would have effectively ended the amateur MMA scene in Washington with the exception of previously recognized amateur organizations. As a direct result of our efforts, the language now reads: "Amateur event" means an event in which all the participants are "amateurs" and which is registered and sanctioned by: (a) United States Amateur Boxing, Inc.; (b) Washington Interscholastic Activities Association; (c) National Collegiate Athletic Association; (d) Amateur Athletic Union; (e) Golden Gloves of America; (f) United Full Contact Federation; ***(g) Any similar organization recognized by the department as exclusively or primarily dedicated to advancing the sport of amateur boxing, kickboxing, or martial arts, as those sports are defined in this section*** As you may know, of the 6 organizations listed only the UFCF deals with MMA, and they don't deal with it outside King & Snohomish counties. Section G was added after numerous letters to and visits with WA State Senators to accomodate our non-profit organization, USA Mixed Martial Arts, and any other that wished to promote legitimate MMA on an amateur level. We hope to further develop our organization and push for national acceptance of the sport on all levels. Eventually, we hope to get MMA back into the Olympics (where it once reigned over gymnastics and track & field as the most popular Olympic sport) as the driving force towards it's legitimacy. Your support is not only needed, but will be much appreciated in our efforts. Questions and/or comments may be directed to: usamixedmartialarts@yahoo.com (at least until our web site is up and running). I thank you in advance for your support, and look forward to hearing your feedback. Please let us know how we can accomplish this in your area by alerting us to venues willing to accomodate MMA events, as well as indicating any schools or clubs that may interested in working with us. Sincerely - Christopher Cope USA Mixed Martial Arts Co-chair

Check your email. Talking to the 'commission' isn't a necesity, I could walk you through it. Just fill out the forms and send everything in. If you talk to them first they tend to make it more difficult and get all scrutinizing on you. Especially when dealing with MMA.
