I have had a Brazillian Rainbow Boa for 4 years now. My current situation is calling for me to try to adopt it out into a good home. What is the best way to go about this? I am more concerned about getting the snake into a good home than I am with $$. My snake is a little bit nippy, but can be handled and is healthy. This is not an easy decision, but the time has come. Please advise me as to my options. I am located in the New York City Area. -jk

Put a nice price on it. Even though you don't care about the money, the price will likely act as a filter for pricks who would harm the animal. Once you can talk to the person, you can get a feel for how they are and, if they are ok, you can come down as low as you need or want to on price.

Thanks! anything else to consider? How should I advertise etc. Is online sales a way to go? Are there networks or websites dedicated to this? -jk

newspaper is probably the best, that way you can find someone close who you can actually meet in person

I'd say steer clear of the newspaper, it might become too tempting to dish it off to the first person who shows up.. Contact a local herp society, they'll probably already have or know of someone interested in such an animal who will have some knowledge and skills.

Thanks guys! Any help with Local Herper societies would be great, however, I can try to research this as well. Any nationwide reputable Herper Societies that could help with this? Any in NYC? -jk

"I'd say steer clear of the newspaper, it might become too tempting to dish it off to the first person who shows up" very true, just make sure that you are comfortable with the person who gets it
