I cant remember if NY is one of the place where a commission of MA'ers have to approve you or something before you can teach/open a school - something like making sure your a legit BB 9or whatever it is you're claiming -

no. There was some sort of bill, but I'm pretty sure it didn't pass. What a mess that would be, government control of martial arts. Yuck.

There has been an ongoing attempt to pass legislation to that effect. There are some stupid politicians involved and a power hungry Soke or two. It is a lot of BS and a very dangerous proposition.

it came up twice that I know of, both times I fought it tooth and nail, sending letters to every politician on the committeee and calling some key ones. It failed pretty badly both times, but always keep an eye out for it
