I have to say that I am ignorant towards the cultural meaning of certain icons in japan, as Ive never traveled there. I would like to ask a question to the native people whom were born, and raised in Japan. If a man is compared to a jackass, as in if he is called a jackass in japan, would that be a compliment or insult? What about if he is called an ape? Would that be a compliment or insult? The reason I ask, is because there is an argument about the relevance of comparisons between humans and certain animals in Japan. I know that certain animals, such as tigers and lions have univeral characteristics within all cultures (noble, heroic, brave), but I am wondering about the two animals I listed above. Thank you.
