Anybody ever think about this? Where I live bobwhite quail used to be everywhere but now I rarely see them. Hardly anyone hunts them and the fox population is kept in check by trappers looking to stock fox pens. I assumed that the quail would start to come back after the fox trapping got popular and everybody and his brother was doing itfor the extra cash.(The pens pay $100 for a red fox and $25 for a grey). However the quail just never seemed to come back like I thought and I got to thinking since quail nest on the ground is it possible that the fireants are eating the eggs? My grandfather thinks this is the reason since fox are down but fireants are way up in the last 15-20 years. I'm wondering if this has been looked at scientifically and if anybody has done any actual research on this.
