2nd Dan old style (non-Olympic) TKD - as lots of hapkido in it. Not a bad stand up style as I could hold my own against KB and MT guys (and resisted being thrown pretty well when I did some judo), but the Olympic stuff took over about 1995 so I gave it up about 1997 after 8 years and did BJJ, sub wrestling, and pancrase. Pancrase is the best sport MA there is period, imo. Anyone can do it pretty safely and you can't have any holes in your system. Also, it teaches fast submissions and not stalling on the ground.

I actually passed all of my belt tests. I worked very had at my bleack belt and did not test until I was asked by my instructor. I was a student at one of the premier TKD schools in the country. My master instructor had a reputation of me a very hard tester. And still after all that. I got got my ass handed to me by beginner Muay Thai students.

I had a similar experience. But, after about 6 weeks of leg block and elbowing practice, I was one of the bestin Saeksan JanJira's MT class. But, I had also done some boxing on the side. TKD is a sport; so is Judo but the latter is more lending itself to MMA I think.

Modern Self-Defense Center
4th degree black belt in Kenpo Karate Lakan (black belt) in Modern Arnis, from the late Prof. Remy Presas Brown belt (sankyu) in Budoshin Ju-jitsu under Prof. George Kirby I have earned my Judo yellow belt 3 times, as well as yellow belts in a number of other styles. Oh, I'm also a BJJ purple belt. There's nothing I love more than tying on a white belt and starting over. I've just gotten back into competitive Ballroom Dance and am working my way up to the advanced levels of Smooth/Standard dances (I used to compete in the high levels of Latin dance). I'm also considering applying to PhD programs. I love being a whitebelt!!!!

Yeah, I think of the 2% of people that start a MA and earn a BB, less than 2% ever put on a white belt again.

Funny and true story. When I was training with Carlos Machado, I, of course, wore a filthy white belt. I had been doing BJJ for about 4 months before that with a student of his. During class, instead of being a fanboy and being sort of wide-eyed around him, I'd talk to him like an equal (I'd done a lot of teaching too and I always let him know I liked his teaching style) Of course, he had no idea of my background. I generally talk to everyone that way (be they janitor or CEO - it takes less effort, believe me, and we all have to wipe our own asses, don't we?) About a week after I had talked with him about some aspect of teaching, something about his use of Uke' I believe, he actually arrived to class early and I was attending the earlier kickboxing class where the instructor made me wear me blackbelt. Carlos actually did a double take when he walked by me. Oh well, he says he still remembers me (we talk on myspace once in a while). MY BIGGEST CLAIM TO FAME though is that my signature is next to his on 5 BB certificates handed out by my instructor, his student. I am smug about it actually!

Black Belt in Dai Shin Martial Arts, which I guess was a TKD, Ryuku Kenpo (Dillman) and BJJ.

Supposedly, if I was willing to pay, I could have had an official Dillman Black Belt certificate, since my instructor was part of DKI...

I was supposed to get my Blue in BJJ, but I was getting married, and moving across the country and never got around to it. :(

I grappled with some guys that were very much into the Dillman kyusho? type stuff, did videos etc... Funny thing is...didn't work at all but if I hit them with anything (learned in ninjutsu) they would pass out.

My thoughts on the Kyusho? is that it is mostly a pretty good mass hypnosis type of thing.

Your thoughts?
