If "affordable" is the primary concern, my advice is to repair/upgrade your PC. -r

If you are looking at getting a mac, you can get one of the new iMac G5s and it will easily run FCP for you. If you are just doing home editing etc, go with this and FCP express HD you will be in heaven.

"For a decent PC for editing what specs should i be looking at?" I dunno; you tell me. You're the one with a system that you're familiar with that's "dying quickly." I wouldn't advise you to start with a new PC. I only said that because you already use one. What's wrong with it? -r

LEMon... Give me your budget and I'll look into it. Everyone defines "affordable" in different terms. Lynn

E-atx case 2x intel xeon 3.2's or opteron 250's (and matching motherboard) 2gb+ low latency ram 1x 73gb western digital raptor (OS drive) 2(+)x250gb hard drives (workspace drives, Your choice, I go for seagate) Windows XP pro(stick with 32 bit for now) 2 hi res crt screens (TFT suck for editing/grading) capture card dual head pci-e graphics card 2x dvd writers (multi format) Sever grade psu (and redundant backup) Backup drive (lacie biggest disk ever in the 1TB flavour) editing software hi res sound card+speackers (7.1) and if you really want to push the boat out you can get a dedicated set of decks(dv, digibeta, hidef etc) Or if you want to be cheap hunt around on Ebay until you find an old SGI workstation (octane/octane 2 or O2/O2+) and use that insted, bearing in mind these run on Irix.
