My work as a wildlife carer is just getting busier and busier.  I currently have 5 lorikeets, 2 blue tongue lizards, one cockatoo and a budgie.  I just released some possums on the weekend.

One of the lori's is an escaped pet as it is easily handled and keeps saying hello when I come in the room (dead give away). I'll find a home for it rather than releasing it (hopefully other than mine).

This weekend I will be doing the Possum course and will learn about raising baby possums.  Should be cool.

All I had to do was the basic carers course.  Most of it I already new.  There were a few new bits to add to the knowledge base.  The best part is the folder with info and all the contact no's you get.  It's really a network of people that makes it work.

The basic course gets you simple birds, lizards and adult mamals.  For more exciting creatures you can do the bat course (I want to do this later this year), the possum course (doing this weekend, raising baby possums), the snake course (catching venomous herps) and so on.

Sounds very cool, is it through a university or an animal shelter or organization type deal?

It's through Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife, which is a native wildlife rescue organisation.  It is associated with NSW Parks and Wildlife (goverment organisation).

Hopefully the Aussie possums are smarter than the midwest and southeast possums of the USA.

Elvis, I might have a person to take the lorikeet - I'll make a couple of phone calls and let you know. He's had loris before.
