A friend of mine is in Scotland. In a castle, long story. She wants to buy me a bottle of scotch, and I thinking 10 for herself.

What are good brands to get? maybe not available elsewhere?

No, he has posted here many times... And there were many "The Ones" before. They all fulfilled their purpose, just as you will. And the OG will be reloaded to start the cycle once again.

I don't know if it's considered "good," but scotch is what I usually order in bars and such, and my favorite is glenlivet. But that's just me.

I can't tell the difference between the different ages, so I usually just get the "youngest" one because it's cheapest. But I've never really tried different ages all in a row, so maybe there is a big difference in taste...

"I can't tell the difference between the different ages," Well the younger ones are less mature, but also more easily manipulated. "so I usually just get the "youngest" one because it's cheapest." Right on, brother. You don't have to spend much at all to impress them, that's for sure. Glenlivet? lol, they'll be amazed at Peach Schnapps. "But I've never really tried different ages all in a row," That is a goal/fantasy of mine as well. Good luck to you in your endeavors.

I wonder if Kirik went to sleep. It probably saves a lot of time to make your threads before bedtime, and then just come back and see what's there in the morning.

Got a Scottish mate who also lives in Japan. He went back home for a holiday. He thought it would be a good idea to bring back some whisky back as presents. Bought a bunch of expensive stuff. When he got back to Japan and went to a liquor shop he saw the same stuff here, but cheaper than back home!

Scotch used to be among my favorite subjects back in the day. Macallan 18 has always been a favorite, and in the US it will run about 60-80 per bottle. (BevMore has it at $140, I guess it HAS been awhile) On special occassions Macallan 25, but the price jumps considerably, to about $250-$300 per bottle when I was drinking it. Probably closer to $500. Not sure what it runs now. I once had the opportuity to have an even older Macallan, but in my opinion the 25 was better (and more "reasonably" priced. If not available, I'd have to say that as a general rule of thumb if you're importing the stuff, go with a single malt as oppossed to a blend if you're looking for a whiskey with character.

I tried a 160 dollar bottle of scotch once. Was it good? Yes. Would I rather drink 4 bottles of Red Label, yes, yes I would.

You drink 4 bottle of Scotch in a row? I guess you don't have time to taste the quality when you're racing against unconsciousness.
