WTF! Noone goes to zoos around here. I have only been to the Washington DC National Zoo, Houston Zoo, and the San Antonio Zoo. The National Zoo kicks ass and is a must see. The Houston Zoo is pretty good with lots of interactive exhibits, but will be underconstuction as the habitats are changing dramatically. The Zoo wants to compete with the worlds best in the near future. The SA Zoo is small, but fun.

I have only been to the San Diego Zoo so I can't compare but it is huge and I really liked it. I have been to alot of aquariums and they all seem alike to me now but I remember enjoying the one in New Orleans

I'm a member of the Detroit Zoo. I doudt it's one of the best in the nation, but I like it and visit about 15 times a year.

They have a GREAT amphibian exhibit, including a walk though enviroment where you can see them up close.

Butterfly house is amazing!

Great reptile exhibit as well.

Artic ring of life has a tunnel you can walk through and see the polar bears and seals swimming in the water right over your head. They spent a TON of money on that exhibit. And, they actually had a polar bear birth this past Feb.

They actually shipped the elephant exhibit (two asian elephants) to the san deigo zoo because they felt the enviroment in michigan was unhealthy for them.

Well, I have mixed feelings about the entire Zoo idea, but I won't get into that now... I enjoyed the San Diego Zoo's "wild animal park" and it seems that most of the animals there were into it. The San Diego Zoo itself was also better than most.

San Diego is my favorite zoo. Denver also has a nice zoo. I will post some pictures that I took there. Some pretty decent shots. RDS

The Key Biscayne Zoo was total coolness but closed in the early 80s and is now a wildlife conservatory with the plants being the only thing maintained. I was just there after the hurricane and it looked like Jurassic park with the old buildings falling into ruin and the hundreds of giant iguanas and other lizards running about.

I am not being a big fan of zoos. They are like animal prison. I only support them because of the awareness they raise and inspiration they can give to future generations.

Yes. Zoos have gotten much, much better. No doubt about that, and no doubt that in most zoos (here in the US and other developed countries at least), the animals are treated well and regularly outlive their wild brethren. Still no matter what exhibit it is, it is a poor substitute for its natural environment where it can roam and go through it's life cycle as nature intended.

The Denver Zoo is small but it's very clean with a large animal selection.  The Polar Bears there are the best.

I hear the San Diego Zoo is the best there is... I'm planning a trip for that in the next couple of years.

St. Louis is good too.

Save your money, Glassop. I think it's better to save a little longer and see animals in their natural habitat. San Diego wildlife park looks interesting though.

Perhaps a Safari is better.

By the way, it's an "o" not an "a".

Happy holidays.

Sorry. I have to say that was relatively excited to go to the San Diego Zoo. I never really liked zoos because of the reasons I said before, but I had heard so many good things about the SDZ. It didn't come close to living up to the hype.

Actually that's good to know.  I will keep that in mind.  Is it a big zoo though?  Would a two year old like it?

I think a 2 year old would like any zoo really. It is big, and it is popular. This means if you are going prime time, then there will be big crowds at the exhibits like panda's, gorilla's, etc. The exhibits are well maintained and cleaned... I will be giving them that. The zoo facility itself is nice overall. I could very well be being a picky SOB because of the fact I don't enjoy seeing animals kept in enclosures that don't come close to their natural habitat. In all honesty, it was the SDZ that cemented that belief for me. I figured such a big and much acclaimed zoo, it would be different, but it wasn't. It could be that I wouldn't like any zoo, and the SDZ is really kicking ass on the zoo scene.

SF, I definetly understand your views on zoos. I have similar feelings, but for 99.9999% they are a great experience in education. Has any of ya'll gone on a Safari?
