I just got a sony dcr-hc42 camera, a lacie 250gb external hard drive(triple interface), and adobe premier pro. I was planning on using my Dell 8600 laptop firewired to the lacie and the camera to import the footage (just came back with 6hrs from a China trip). then burning onto DVD's. I have a DVD+rw burner in my laptop. Does this sound like it will work- I've got no previous experience and am feeling confused.

Piece of cake. You'll need a dvd authoring program. Once you've edited it, render it out (I render as an AVI and let Adobe Encore do the compression work), import into your authoring program and let it do its thing.
