Hey Chris, I keep hearing that you shouldn't use the sauna right away, that you should use plastics and sweats and do some slow work to sweat as much off without the sauna. Then, when you are having a tough time starting a sweat, you use the sauna (those last few pounds). I guess it's supposed to save your energy a bit. Any thoughts on this? C

I guess it depends on how much you have to cut. i usually do a few rounds of jump rope and running in plastics first and then the last 10 :) pounds in the sauna

For those who don't have access to a sauna, I've been using my own bathroom...just close the door, turn on a hot shower, put on your plastics with sweats over top, and get ready to camp out in the bathroom for a while. Do some jumping jacks and other light calithenics to get the sweat going, then just sit on the toilet seat and think about your upcoming match while you sweat the pounds away, the mirrors fog, and your wife calls her girlfriends to complain about what a psycho you turned out to be. :)

Chris, how do you usually eat the day before the cut, in terms of avoiding sodium. I am 161 right now and need to be 147 May 26 (I asked for 150 and the guy gave me 147, lame). C

Yea I was wondering as well.........does anybody have any tips for what to eat the day before cutting, in terms of avoiding sodium especially? Any input appreciated thanks. By the way Ive gotten a lot of really helpful advice from reading these threads. Thanks!

You MUST drink at least a gallon or more of DISTILLED water day beofre the cau starts.  Drink all the way up to exactly 24 hours and then STOP.  Drink nothing and eat nothing 24 hours before weigh-ins. 

As far as sauna I didn't mean you can do 10 in 1 hour.  Do 1 hour at a time with 15 on a couple off and 15 on and so on for an hour.  You will probably need ot do this 3 times.  2 time day before and once day of or once day before and 2 times day of depending on weigh-in time.

My next fight weigh-ins are 11:00 am so I will do 2 the night before and one the morning of.

Eat very low sodium the day before cutting.  Maybe like 1/2 cup steamed white rice twice and a very small amount of protein.  You'll burn the carbs while cutting and training.  WATER is a must.

Chris Im very curious to ask... dont you find cutting weight the night before, the morning of and afternoon of the weigh in quite taxing on your body? Feeling dry for so long must be quite difficult. I myself have tended to cut water weight as close to the weigh in time as possible, in the hope it places less stress on my body as possible(over a shorter time period). My last cut was 10 lbs in water over a 1.5 hr period (179.5-169.5) It was difficult and of course painful. I didnt use albolene....I'll have to try that one. Have you tried cutting in this manner? And whats your opinion on it? Do you think this method is more taxing?

I haven't tried it that close becuase I don't want to miss.  I guess I could give it a try but not around a fight.  Maybe as a trial run.  Only problem then is there is no motivation to actually make the weight when the shit gets shitty and then I might just drink some water and eat.  :)

When cutting do you use a conventional sauna or an infrared sauna. Ive seen advertisements claiming infrared saunas help you sweat more (not sure if its bullshit or not). Has anyone used both and found one better than the other?

It does if you cut too much and are too drained.  You have to play with it a bit before trying it before a fight.
