I have a new Pentax 4.5x14x42 that I am using on my .308. I recommend that you shop around a bit and buy a good scope. You can pick up a high quality scope for $200-300. The extra 100 or so $ is worth it. Also, get a laser scope sighting device! It will save you $ in ammo while sighting in.

When shopping for prices, don't forget to compare the prices you find on Ebay. There are a number of good quality scopes sold new in the box there.

I use a Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50 on my Weatherby 257 Magnum. Love it! JSCorbett is right too! My scope sells for 350 @ Cabelas and Bass Pro and I got it for 225 on Ebay brand new in the box!

If money is no object leopold VXIII. If you need to save a few dollars, Redfield. You can find them in sportsmanguide for around $100 to $150.

Burris makes very nice optics, however for the price the bushnell trophy is a decent scope.

Do you really need a 50mm objective? Seems kinda a waste as far as weight and cost unless you are hunting around dusk or dawn all the time.... or have gun mag. writers just poisoned my brain on this one? I'm looking at getting a new rifle after this season so I'll be in the scope market most likely then, too.

Cant remember which Leupold I have, but they are THE BEST....I've never seen clarity like on a Leupold scope.

Swarovski or Zeiss are definately the top of the line, if you have the $'s to spend. a 50mm is great, especially for long distance shots early and late in the day, i have 6-24x50 on my remington 700 - 220 swift, great for varmit or any 300-400+ yard shots, but for a deer rifle i find a 2.5-8 x36 (or similar) leupold works best for the money. Unless you need a 50mm, they can be overkill.

a 50mm can definately be overkill, unless you just need it, but it's your choice, mostly depends on what and where your shooting.
