Stronghold, in all honesty the scope looked really cool initially. After comparing it to other scopes at dusk and dawn, I definately noticed the difference(Luckily the gun shop owners let me try out all their scopes). The weight is a non issue as I carry a Weatherby ultralight. This stuff is expensive, but hell I gotta spend my money on something that will last a long time.

I use 3x9x40s. I've got a Savage 111FCXP3 in .30-06 that came with a cheap Simmons scope. I haven't had any problems with it yet. I put a Bushnell Banneron my Stevens 200 .223 If I ever replace the Simmons on my .30-06 I might go with a decent fixed 4x. I use the 06 for caribou hunting and I never take the scope off 3x except to check my zero at 100 metres.

I agree with the Nikon Buckmaster. I have one on my .270 & its amazing how durable & clear it is even in the low lights of early morning & late afternoon.  I have the 4x12 too & got it on ebay for $156 delivered to my office.

If you're in the market for a scope (used or new)....EBAY.....I saved at least $100 on mine.

ive compared many scopes between nikon and leupold. ive always found nikon to be more clear and a better scope imo. with a .30-06 if youre using it for hunting 3-9x40 is hard to beat, you may also want to consider a 4-12x40 depending on the terrain youre hunting in. for the $$ you cannot go wrong with a nikon, lifetime warrenty too if you dont like it.
