I noticed there are two types of Retractable batons. 1. Solid ones
2. Spring/Flexible ones What are the main advantages and disadvantages of each? The only advantage of the Flexible one is it wont break...if you hit something with the solid one, it could get bent and not retract anymore. Thanks

Which is the legal one? Why would one be legal and not the other?

e.kaye, I know we discussed this once before, but I forgot. All retractable batons are illegal in NYC, right?

As far as I know the solid ones are illegal and the spring billies are legal. I have to admit I am not 100% sure as the City Council and Assembly have a habit of changing the rules and not telling anyone. The spring billies were marketed under the brand name Kiyoga years ago and came with a card explanifying the legalities.
