Well it's about time that someone make a thread about this considering that there are a few of us on here who are involved or at least interested in this genre of filmmaking. Here's a list of a few books that I feel are worth owning: "Cross-Cultural Filmmaking" by: Barbash and Taylor "The Art of the Documentary" by: Cunningham "Directing the Documentary" by: Rabinger "Making Documentary and Reality Videos" by: Barry Hampe "Trailer Mechanics: A guide to making your documentary fundraising trailer" by : Fernanda Rossi "Documentary Filmmakers Speak" by: Liz Stubbs This list is pretty solid. I'll do a list of film biz books soon that I'll list some great resources for filmmaking law and clearance laws.

"Shaking the Money Tree" is great. I should make a thread on film biz books. I have a stack of them that I refer to constantly. I also have 2 lawyers though that I refer to more...lol.

Gubbs....A great book for that is "Digital Filmmaking 101" by Dale Newton and John Gaspard. There are a ton of DV Beginner books out there, unfortunately I don't really have much to offer you in that arena. I have a fairly large library of filmmaking books, but not a lot of beginner ones for beginner DV shooters.

i got "Writing, Directing and Producing Documentary Films and Videos" by: Alan Rosenthal friday from amazon. it is a great book from what i have read so far, only about 30 - 40 pages. really helpful at helping you put ideas on paper in a logical fashion.

Amazon was good, book only took a week to get to New Zealand
