I know next to nothing about Soccer. I'm trying to become knowledgable about it by the time the world cup rolls around. I often see people say that such and such a player is "pacy" or has good pace, what does that mean? In the FIFA games pace is also a stat.

Why did I buy FIFA instead of winning eleven? I already knew winning eleven was better. Also, how big are the players generally, like forwards for instance? Is physical strength really so important, apart from how hard you can kick it?

Physical strength is imperative when it comes to tackling and position struggle in the box. At the same time all muscle gain has to be balanced against endurance and pace. Football is a maximal intermittent exercise. A player covers 6-9 miles a game, varying between sprinting, running, jogging and walking. If you're too big you're going to end up gassing in the middle of the game. Think Bob Sapp running for 90mins... Most players are something like 6ft, 180lb. Target players (central positioned attackers) and centre backs tend to be taller and bigger. Heading and position struggle are important parts of their game and they usually don't run as much as midfielders and flank players. The Swedish attacker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is considered big and he's 6,3ft, 185lbs. Another aspect of physical strength is injury prevention. With the commercialisation of the sport, more and more games are added to the season - international club cups and so forth. It's vital for players to build their muscles and joints to avoid injury. A top player will play something like fifty games a year nowadays. One of the reasons France didn't do well in the 2002 WC was that their top players were worn out after a long club season.
