I've never eaten there so all I know is from their website and it doesn't look like there is any connection. No mention of Harris Ranch, they dry age their own beef and looks to be much more upscale.

I second Ruth's Chris. The Chop House in Chicago is probably the only thing that compares (sometimes on good days, its even better.) I'd have steak once a week if it wouldn't kill you.

I think Lugers is way overrated. The best thing there is the bacon slab appertizer. I like Angelo and Maxies in NYC or the Palm.

Kobe beef wellington?

Sort of defeats the purpose of having Kobe beef.

1-Different steaks, different Steakhouse. 2-Knowing the crew makes a difference. Like a sushi bar, they save the best steaks for good customers. Knowing them makes a big difference. In NYC: For a NY Strip the Palm (the 837 2nd Ave. branch). For a Porterhouse, Luger's in Great Neck. I like that branch better than Brooklyn. For a NY Strip au poivre, Raoul's. For Skirt Steak, Landmarc.

"Oh, and lol @ the idea of good steak outside of the midwest! That's like saying Red Lobster has good, fresh seafood."
Why? Seafood should be eaten fresh. Like, as close to immediately after being caught as humanly possible. Steak, on the other hand, should be aged. Seems like a bad comparison to me, but maybe I just don't understand where you're coming from. 'Splain please.

I also like Ruth Chris and House of Prime Rib, but both places are over rated imo. Going to check out Norton's in a few weeks, but I really want to stop by Harris Ranch next time I drive down to LA. My friend actually is a great chef, and he makes the best tri-tip steaks that I have ever tasted.

I think I will be going by Harris Ranch on the way to the Bay Area around the 14th.  I'll let you know my experience.
