How much can a person learn or change his game in six weeks, is one key question. Manny Steward, along with Freddie Roach, are the two best trainers in the game today. They get my respect and dollars on a regular basis. Styles make fights. I am doubtful that Taylor has the punch volume to keep up with Winky, whereas it was certainly adequate against Hopkins. It comes down to the question of whether or not Taylor's more selective, strategic punches have a big enough inpact to overcome his likely inferior volume of punches. Can he get a knockdown to even out the scorecards? That is no easy task, if you have followed Wink's game at all. When Manny Steward says that the plan for Taylor is "very complicated", it makes me have concern, if I am backing Taylor. Six weeks is not enough time to implement a "complicated" game plan, IMO.

I still can't believe this fight is going to be free on HBO while we all had to fork out fifty bucks for Tarver and Hopkins. I feel like I have the ski mask on getting this one on regular HBO. This is going to be a damn good fight. The stock of Taylor just went up after we saw how Hopkins does have a little bit left in the tank. I wouldn't be very surprised to see either guy win the fight.

FM How much of an advantage do you think Jermain Taylor will have with Emmanuel Steward in his corner?

I don't think it will be a huge difference for this fight, but on his second and third start with Steward, it should be HUGE. This fight, they have only been together for roughly 6 weeks, so there can't be any major changes to his game in that period of time. It usually takes a couple starts with a new top trainer to make a big difference. One scenario that seems possible in my mind is that Winky would eke out a win here, and then Taylor takes the title back in a rematch, after he has developed more with Steward.

Hard to say. There is a chance that brining in E-Stew at the last minute will actually HURT Taylor in the short term. If he enters the ring thinking too much and trying out new stuff that he hasn't had enough time to work out in the gym then he will definitely struggle against a guy as slick as WW. This is a bit of an extreme example but do you remember what happened to Naseem Hamed when he brought in Steward before fighting MAB? It confused the shit out of him and he looked terrible. Now JT does not need to make nearly the wholesale technical changes that NH attempted but I would not be surprised at all to see JT slightly off-form come Saturday. Long term, Stewart will be great for JT. E-Stew is the best in the business bar none.

I can't remember a fight that had people so divided on their feelings. One scenario that seems pretty common in this fight, is that a number of people, including myself, felt real confident early on predicting Winky, and as the fight got closer, started having serious second thoughts. I can't make a play on a fight that has me feeling so mixed. For me it comes down to one thing that has me backing off of playing Winky, and that is the 6" reach advantage Taylor has. This would not be a big deal, if Taylor had no jab, but he has an outstanding jab. Although Taylor has some other advantages, this is the one that makes me the most nervous about playing Winky. Besides, I don't want to risk my profits from Wednesday on a play which I have no decisive feel. I also think Oddessa's idea makes a lot of sense, although I have never played a draw in my life. This one sure has that type of look.

I am watching this move closely, sawdusk. I may pull the trigger on Wright after all. I did not figure this big a swing toward Taylor. How often have we seen the public swing toward one fighter, and be so wrong on it. It is a close fight, and I have a slight lean toward Wright. With this value, I may just go 2x after all. The value is there at this point, and this is the type of play I look for and figure if I bet this scenario 20 times, the value alone will make me a nice profit. The hell with the 6" reach, Winky is certainly the better boxer at this point.

Wright +160 and counting. Every 5 minutes it seems to be going up. It looks like a non-stop freight train right now. I have not heard of any news that could move it like that. Has anyone?

I know some wiseguy money came in a few hours ago on Taylor. The steam chasers are following that move and the price is getting carried away now.  Happens alot.

I can also guess that recent photos of the  two fighters 2gether are getting more visable and with Taylors size advantage, the square mentality that bigger is better is kiking in.

Nothing new ........injury/gloves/etc has come up to press this line up.  Chances are I would have heard something by now.

I score every fight I bet on very carefully (and I tend to be conservative as to not favor my guy) and I had it 115-113 Winky. It was real close though.

curious how many of the sites you bet at consider a draw which you bet on the fighter a push? I bet at two different sites and one considered it a loss and the other (luckily the one I hammered) considered it a push.... with joey's draw, it made for a great night...

You always get the money back on a draw, UNLESS you bet a line where there is a draw listed WITH the win bets. If the draw is listed in another section, outside the win bets, you will get the refund.

COMPUBOX: Taylor landed 163 of 703 punches (23 percent) Wright was 226 of 643 (35 percent). Wright landed 103 of 335 jabs (31 percent) Taylor landed 41 of 308 jabs(13 percent) This improved the case for Wright.
