Nice little short. I'd tighten the edit up slightly and maybe bring in a soundtrack on there to give a bit more of a mood to the piece. I'd also worry that people might miss that last bit after the credits. I wanted to see something like that during the piece. Good job overall! Keep us posted on what else you are doing. You should enter it into some horror film festivals. They love shorts!

Thanks Lynn good tips, lemme ask where would you tighten the editing up specifically? Would really help me. Also lighting wise what would you change?

That was fun! Could use some pulling up in the video and audio. Sound track and sound effects could have a huge effect. Some motivated lighting would help tell the story as well. I know it was a lot of work "as is" though. Great stuff.

Where you make edits in the audio and video helps tell the story. The time between where you "should" make an edit and the time it actually happens sometimes is too long. in other words, when a person has said something and then you cut to a reaction shot from another person should have a certain flow. It can be early, late or after a pause, but there should be a motivated timing. Motivated lighting is light that helps tell the story. Example: When the old woman answered the door the hall and threshold could have been much darker than the kitchen and the POV of the person outside would have seen her with a half shaded face and maybe a little light reflecting on the knife she was holding. A sound effect and some music could have set up an emotional cadence which would then be shattered by the door opening all the way with the kitchen light flooding in and making her seem like a nice old lady. Just an example. I thought it was really fun. Demi

You can look around for books and articles on indie film making. There are numerous books and DVDs on lighting. I've taken alot of courses from these guys in LA and they have a great lighting DVD as well as great DV forums. http://dvcreators.net/discuss/ http://dvcreators.net/dv-enlightenment I've done many short films, TV commercials and instructional vids. I'm currently working on a local TV commercial for my instructional DVDs. You can checkout my video production site here: www.IndependentKoncepts.com Demi

Not bad, I liked how the grandma walked to the door. I agree about the editing. You should have more in there showing the grandma's reason for delusion. Like the grandson walking around checking out stuff or something. I don't think some people will figure out that they are related and will be like WTF. The editing where the granma is cutting stuff is great. BPD Lime Belt

Nah. Blood would have changed it altogether. Unless of course you were using some kind of rasberry syrup that she could lick off her hands over a cooking pot.

Though I must admit I was anticipating seeing blood, in fact waiting for it. It was sweet that I didn't see it. Her reference to mince was really enough. Glad there weren't any screams.

The knife chopping was great mixed in with that muffled radio sound, really felt creepy, I agree with all the advice that has been offered to you, especially given from Demitrius regarding the lighting of the hallway and the editing. All in all, that was a good little short, you could manipulate a few technical aspects, maybe have the pause run on a little longer from when the girl is offered to when we hear her drop. I have actually watched all the HNC film shorts that have been made in Aberdeen college this year and for 6 mins long, a cast of 3 people and a living room, creatively this beats out 80% of them. Keep up the good work,

Pretty good, though I too almost missed the end(after the credits).
