Well I finally decided to pick up an anamorphic lens for my dvx100 yesterday. I take off Friday morning for a few weeks of shooting in the Appalachians on my new doc. I want to shoot it in 16x9 format on 24Pa since I know I'll film out this in the end. (well at least that's the goal). I'll give you guys a full report on it when I return but I've seen work shot with it and I loved it.

I love the DVX100. I shot my last doc on it and the quality is amazing. My distributors are quite impressed with the over production quality. I really am excited about this new lens!

Are you using the dvx100 or the dvx100a?.

DVant. I use the DVX100. I really don't see a need to upgrade to that 100a or the 100b. They are serious upgrades but not enough for me to have shifted to them. I would never shoot in squeeze mode for 16x9 format which seems to be one of the major changes. When I shift cameras, I'll get the HVX200 but I am waiting on the 2nd generation as they will have some more upgrades from the 1st generation. I also am waiting on the new media drives that come out 3rd quarter for it that utilize the P2 slots.

Interesting. I worked on a show which we used both the 100 w/the Ana Lens and a 100a w/the ana squeeze. The general consensus was that the 100 w/Ana Lens gave a far better image AND had a wider angle. Regarding the new media drives for the HVX, aqre these different than the fs-100 firestore?

DVant...that's exactly what I'm saying. Using the DVX100 with the Anamorphic lens is far superior to shooting with the DVX100b or DVX100a in Anamorphic Squeeze Mode. Regarding the new media drive, I'm talking about the Cineporter that is coming out in the 3rd quarter. They are definitely different than the FS-100 firestore. Here's an image of it:

hmmm....interesting. I love the idea of the Cineporter, but the size will make it more difficult fir those "run and gun' shoots.
