Well in life we sometimes are shocked by some new purchase we make that makes our lives much easier. Today was one of those days for me! I've been quite frustrated with the old Sharpie on DVD labeling system so I shifted to the Ink Jet Printed Labels that really just don't work for me. So today I headed out to B&H and found the perfect solution: The Epson R800 Printer! Wow!!! I'm printing up a dozen dvd's with my new trailer on them for my distributor and they look amazing! If you are looking to make a more professional presentation that will knock the socks of whoever is looking at your DVD, this is definitely the way to go!

Here's the R800 in it's full glory!

It may look simple but it prints like a beast!

It prints directly on DVDs (printable ones). You will be impressed, trust me on this one. *All printers print labels, so if you are looking to do that and have a printer, check them out. Next month a new labeling system is going to be announced called "Tattoos" by Epson. They are much better than the current labels out there but aren't as good as printable DVDs though.

Man you will be surprised. I use the Memorex one and I promise you will be blown away. Don't get the Epson 220 or 340 as they use a different ink than the r800. Those inks smear if they get wet. The inks on the R800 can be submerged in water and remain unaffected. I can't stand the print on labels as they stand now but have spoken with someone who has seen the new tattoo system that they are releasing and they are very impressed with them.

i've only read bad things about epsons (ink consumption, mysteriously refusing to print right after the waranty runs out [happened to my epson stylus (non-dvd printer]). unfortunately epson is the only company allowed to ship their printers with cd/dvd trays in the US. i've read great things about the canon printers ip4000/5000 (crippled for the US market) whos trays can be ordered via ebay or overseas or homemade from cardboard. not sure however if it's worth the extra hassle. that said, i do hope your r800 lasts a long long time.

"i've only read bad things about epsons (ink consumption, mysteriously refusing to print right after the waranty runs out [happened to my epson stylus (non-dvd printer]). " A similar thing happened to my epson stylus colour 440, refused to recognise fresh ink cartridges and eventually stopped printing all together, I still went out and got an epson RX620 MFP

That's odd. I've had 2 Epson printers and never had a single problem with either. I've had an Epson Sylus Photo 2400 and an Epson C84 and both never did anything but work great. There's always a scary story out there somewhere...lol. Sorry to hear you guys were on the living end of one.

I too have the epson C84 and love it however, it only works when all inks are full, is there a way to change the settings so it will print black and white if I only have black ink

You know, I really wish you could...lol. I had that same prob. too. You can always get inks much cheaper online than you can in stores though.

My 785epx just stopped printing yesterday. The error message said: Printer has reached the end of it's life (or something like that). I'm looking into the r800. D.

Demitrius, That is one hell of a message to get. WTF? I've never heard of that before. I think you'll really like the R800 though. I was up until 4 am printing stuff on it and it truly blows me away. The crispness of the text is staggering for an inkjet. I held it up to a laser printed paper and they were virtually identical. Very impressed.

Lynn, I needed a printer ASAP and nobody local had one. Even from BandH it would have arrived 6-8 hours too late for me to wait so I got an R340. Not the same thing at all but it's one step up from what I had. In my above post I said 785epx, it was actually an R320. The R320 was actually more than fine but I'm sure the R800 is super by comparrison. D.

Demitrius...the R340 is a great printer but the problem is that the inks aren't waterproof like the R800. You can submerge the CD/DVDs printed with the R800 in water and have no problems, the ones done with the lower end ones like the R340, R320, R220 will have problems with the ink running. If you don't get your DVDs wet, you'll be fine. Where are you located?
