It was reccomended to me many times. When I eventually picked it up I found it was a facinating read. Amazing the amount of power and control the guy was able to amass. Recomended.

They're making a movie out of this.  Christian Bale is playing a Delta Force guy (I think, either that or one of the intel guys) and Javier Bardem (Chigurh from "No Country For Old Men") is playing Escobar.

good book

Pretty much anything by Mark Bowden is guaranteed to be solid, well researched, and have great sources.

Guests of the Ayatollah is great too

Bowden is awesome, the guy is so thorough but still writes a good story

It was just staggering how he could amass so much wealth that he could buy anything and everything, and have anyone killed or kidnapped

I like how he pretty much says our Delta Force guys were in on the kill, without actually saying it. Kind of like in Blackhawk Down, how he mentions that Adid mysteriously happens to die soon after we pull out

In the movie, Bale is playing one of the Centra Spike guys, presumably they'll buff his role up a bit. Bardem as Escobar is hard to picture, but oh well.

Both books amazed me, finding out what actually was going on behind the scenes just a few years ago without the public having a clue

:\     as long as you have special forces in your title, if not, then the opposite of that statement is true.

Although I'm looking forward to this movie.  The documentary was great, I have a tough time with Bowden but I may read this anyway.
