"I would never have a cat, might as well have a stuffed ornament, IMO. Dogs are more like people, so they make better pets, IMO. " Sounds like someone has never owned a cat. I used to be a dog person. But after owning a cat I cant believe that I ever liked dogs.

Cats are better for people in apartments and/or have busy/hectic lives. I think dogs bond more deeply to us than cats, and they're better intergrated into our lives/society. I always prefer to own both, though presently I only have cats due to lifestyle(work/school/tiny apt)

I would definately say dogs. It is such a great feeling to go home and have someone who is always happy to see you. Someone who will listen to your problems and how your day was. They cuddle with you and are completely devoted to you, what more could you ask?

It blows me away everytime I hear a dog lover say that, like cats never even ackowledge their guardians.

cat are superior in every way, except they won't play fetch with you etc. my girlfriend got us a yorkie a while back to go along with our russian blue cat, and it's grown on me a lot... but dogs are very high maintainence. aside from a yorkie, maltese etc. i wouldn't recommend getting a dog unless you have a big yard or live in the country. it's sort of cruel to keep a normal sized dog indoors all the time. i'd love to own a domesticated big cat(leopard size), if such a thing existed

dogs will bond with anyone that owns it, basicly a cat really has to be shown love/care for it to bond with you so if you're an asshole, get a dog

As a barometer of how good a person you are, a cat is tops. As mentioned before, a dog will love anyone. You could be the worst rapist, serial killer, child molester, etc. in the world but your dog will love you. If you see someone whose dog loves them, it really tells you nothing. If you see someone whose cat loves them, you know they're someone special.

Let's see.... the bassett hound is the happiest thing in the world but keeps looking in the littler box for "crunchy treats".... the lab wears fecal streaks like face paint.... and the cat seems to think that she should own both of them and make them pay attention to her fuzziness....... I love them all, but the cat is definitely on the top of the social order over here.

They're both great pets so there should be no debate. It's just personal preference. I love dogs, but I prefer cats as pets.

Dogs are annoying, cats can be annoying too, but not as much. I don't see much appeal in having a big stupid dog constantly following you around and begging for your attention. Hell we have a Himalayan cat (which are about as snooty as they come), and even he get's on my nerves now. Always meowing, wanting to be picked up, etc. If it was a dog it would be much worse. That friendliness/companionship is alright in moderation, but too much gets old real fast.

I have a cat, grey tiger, and shes the most loyal cat you could imagine. She is like a dog in the sense that when I get home she'll come up and rub against my leg. She follows me around the house and will sit next to me if I'm reading/writing papers/doing the internet thing. I can leave her alone for hours/days with no recourse. She isn't a slob. She never smell bad, she sleeps on my feet and keeps them warm at night. She has a ton of personalality, trys to talk to me... will meow at me when I tell her something, or if I want her to come to be I meow at her twice and she'll come running. On the downside, shes insanly jealous, will get inbetween me and a girl whether on the couch or in bed. She follows me into the bathroom to watch me shit. She licks my arms and legs. She has a farting problem (smells like all sorts of holy hell). She is an attention whore of the likes this board has never seen. I had to leave her with my mom while I'm away, I guess she lost like 5 lbs since I left and sits outside staring at my car. She used to know when I was coming home from the sound of my car and she would come flying across the street as I would pull up to follow me inside. Shes the shit... but I still like dogs, just not as much as I love my pussy.

Orange tabbies are supposedly the best cats as far as having a pet is concerned.

Both rule. Some dogs can be independent, aloof and low maintenance like a cat, and some cats can be reckless unconditionally loving slobs like dogs, but until someone can train a cat to go get me a beer... Dogs win. Case closed.

I think in a city, dogs are out of the question. I had a neighbor who had a big lab. She kept the poor thing locked up in her bedroom for most of the time she lived in the apartment and the poor thing was always on her bed, peering out the window wanting to get out.
