A friend of mine is looking to purchase a handgun for home defense. I'm probably going shopping with her sometime this week. I'm thinking an auto, 9mm or 40 cal, holds at least 7/8 rounds. USP40 or 9, small Glock or I think it's S&W that has a line that is like the Glock (can't remember what it's called)... What do you guys recommend?

if you weren't participating in a scam, I would tell you a place where you can get USP's for less than $600

deathside, I don't let stuff from here get to me... Revolver... I think it's funny the amount of people on this forum that thing I'm a scammer. It's actually quite comical. This is the only place where there is negativity about it, so at the end of the day it doesn't effect me. The business is growing and the money is coming in... Alot of this people are not capable of thinking on their own and they just jump on the bandwagon... so if you don't want to share where you can get those cheap, then that's fine...

The gun you are thinking of that is like a Glock is probably the Springfield XD. If you are dead set on a .40, you can't go wrong with a USP. I would recommend it over the XD40 simply because of the frame safety. Though, the XD is a quality product and costs half as much. Caliber aside, I would recommend a 1911 .45 above anything else. The Kimber Warrior is a solid choice if you want a good .45 without spending too much money. If money is no object, look at Les Baer.

DJs, It's my dual personality that requires me to have a gun! haha I used to shoot IPSC years ago... might get back into it when my schedule allows it. Too much going on right now! alpo, That's the exact gun I was thinking of! I like the idea of the 9mm/.40 because of stopping power (although I tend to think the 9 is a little on the smaller side). She is a small framed girl and I think the .45 would be to big of a caliber for her especially if she gets in the habit of double tapping. Me... personally... have always liked the .45... probably go with a Springfield... How is the Kimber line? I'm not too familiar with that company. How is the quality??? Thanks

Revolver, My first account is up about 24% in 8.5 week. The one I started tracking here about 5 weeks is up about 12%.

Nowitz, I disagree. There are quite a few women that can handle a gun... just don't make 'em mad! She will be taking safety classes and I will go over different drills with her. She lives in a good neighbourhood there has been the odd break in lately. The police are usually on scene within minutes, but would still like to have a handgun close by. I can't blame her for that...

"The one I started tracking here about 5 weeks is up about 12%." and it's been down quite a bit below 100%, if I remember correctly. you do realize that if someone had a great algorithm for beating the stock market, sharing the algorithm with you and all the other people who bought the software negates the effectiveness of it in the long run, right?

Ah, I didn't realize it was for a woman. Well, a .45 may be a bit much. In that case, I would probably go with the XD40 or HK USP .40. The HK can be stored loaded safer since it has an external safety. In terms of reliability, they are about the same. The Kimber Series I and Warrior products are very high quality. The Series II have some horror stories regarding the external extractors, although most people don't report any issue with it. If I were to buy a Kimber, I would go for a Series I or Warrior, just to play it safe.

.44 Magnum (which my mother can shoot). I'll put it this way: whatever she hits, will stop.

"RoR is taking no prisoners! " Of course not, mainly because he is right, the only sure ways to make money on the market are long term safe investments and spread betting when you know what kind of results are due

The S&W thats like a glock is the SIGMA and it sucks ass. The 1911 style pistols fit the human hand like no other so i would go with that I own a custom kimber and its an amazing handgun. Best bang for your buck is a glock though

you do realize that if someone had a great algorithm for beating the stock market, sharing the algorithm with you and all the other people who bought the software negates the effectiveness of it in the long run, right?

You could go so far as to say that the fact that someone is willing to share such an algorithm is proof that it doesn't work.  And like RoR said even if it does work it soon won't.

"the only sure ways to make money on the market" There are NO sure ways to make money on the market. There are ways that have proven themselves to work consistently over the long term. Even these can fail in extreme situations. Bill Brasky is putting the Greater Fool theory into action. Seriously, if the trader has their own money to invest, why don't they keep the algorithm to themselves and trade off it if it's so great? if they need outside funding, why don't they use their own money and establish a track record, then bring in outside investors and become a hedge fund manager?

"How am I putting the greater fool theory into action?" I should have phrased that better. I'm not calling you a fool, I'm saying you are applying the Greater Fool Theory to The Pacifist's transaction. The Pacifist (at least should) think his algorithm supplier is the greater fool for selling it to him. The algorithm supplier is thinking The Pacifist is the greater fool for buying his shit. I am thinking the algorithm supplier is going to come out right in the end.
