Looking to get a reliable used car for local transportation. I wanted to get a Honda Civic, becuase of their reputation for reliability and durability, but the only ones I can find in my budget (4k-5k) have really high mileage (130k plus). I've found a 98 toyota corolla for 4k with only 87k miles. Anyone have any opinions on this vehicle in general?

Even if the car wasn't maintained well it will probably last another 80K. Just make sure you change all the fluids. If a guy has records for all the services and he did all of the servicing that is worth a premium IMO. That car will last another 200K.

I bought a Corolla in 2000. It's probably near 80k miles right now. The car has never, ever given me any problems at all and I haven't serviced it aside from oil changes and even those were few and far between. I gave it to my brother a few months back and it's still running perfectly

I owned 2 corollas, a 77 and an 85. GREAT CARS! I then owned 2 Toyota trucks, An 88 and an 85. Just the same results. The strongest brand I've ever owned, and I've owned alot of vehicles.
