I just heard an interview with John Sandford, author of the Prey series, and he said that his good friend Carl Hiaasen got him his agent and helped him get started.

I liked Stormy Weather and Tourist Season the best myself. I would also suggest Chris Moore's stuff. In particular, "Lamb" and "Island of the Sequined Love Nun".

Bought Lamb today but I'm going to wait to read it after I read White Night and I may even read the Road as well. I read the prologue and part of the first chapter and laughed my ass off.

I'm afraid I'm going to enjoy it immensly. I like Hiaasen but I've yet to laugh out loud while reading any of his books but I laughed out loud in the 3 or 4 times in the first 10 or 20 pages of Lamb. Ah hell I may have to skip White Night and go ahead and read Lamb tonight.

I've laughed out loud many times while reading Hiassen. Also, Lawrence Shames.

Whale Season by NM Kelby is very much in the Hiaasen tradition.
