Has anyone read this yet? What's the verdict? I loved the other 3 Lecter books and they are the only non fiction I can really enjoy. Does the new one live up to the others?

Each of the Hannibal books declined in quality, the first, Red Dragon, was the best. SOTL's was good, Hannibal bad, don't expect much from this one either. I think he identifies too strongly with Hannibal, he's lost the artistic detatchment with the character you need to stay focused.

I put it down after an hour or less, just too boring.

I have been wondering about that too... It seems like he wrote Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs in one frame of mind, then the movie of SOTL came out and he probably made boatloads of money (comparitively speaking), so he decided to cash in by writing a book about Hannibal Lecter that would be easy to turn into a movie.  It seems like Hannibal Rising was probably the same.

The movie may be better than the book.

I actually picked it back up and read the book. It does explain how he came to be a serial killer and a cannibal. Revenge.

It was on about the same level as the last Hannibal book. Not very good IMO

It was kind of tragic how he chose murder over love.

Just saw Silence of the Lambs again. Excellent. I'm gonna have an old friend for dinner.
