5 things you didn’t know about Jon Jones that may surprise you
Following his brutal victory over rival Daniel Cormier a couple of weeks ago at UFC 214, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones is now, once again, the UFC light heavyweight champion of the world.
After being out of action for more than a year due to troubles outside of the cage, something that seems to be a pattern for Jones, he is now back on top and hopefully, he can stay out of trouble this time and go on a real tear.
Despite all the trouble and negative press Jones has had to endure the past few years, his ability inside the cage speaks for itself and he is clearly one of the best if not THE best fighter ever.
Now that Jones has returned triumphantly, here are five things you may not know about him that may surprise you:
5) Jones has the longest reach in the UFC – 84.5 inches
Surprisingly enough, there aren’t even any current heavyweights in the UFC with a longer reach than Jones, which is 84.5 inches.
Even 7 foot tall Stefan Struve only has a reach of 84 inches, making the 6’4” Jones the fighter with the longest reach.
Unlike many other fighters with a long reach, Jones uses this trait incredibly well. Even though it is not measured, leg reach is almost more important as you can strike with kicks from further away – something which Jones does very well; either with the oblique kick or side kick to the body which keeps his opponents at bay and wears them down.
