Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard FLOORS cocky amateur during exhibition
Boxing legend ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard is no doubt one of the greatest boxers of all-time. According to Ring Magazine as of 2002, Leonard was ranked 9th on their list of the greatest boxers of the last 80 years. And also, according to BoxRec, Leonard is considered one of the greatest pound for pound boxers of all time.
Leonard is also one of the good guys in combat sports and compared to many other aging, retired fighters (particularly boxers), Leonard is still very sharp, which is pretty amazing considering all the wars he had with guys like Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler, and Tommy Hearns.
In this video, which was from the documentary ‘Sugar Ray in England’, we see an example of ‘Sugar’ Ray’s good nature as when a cocky amateur boxer, named Steve Sinclair, challenged Sugar to an exhibition match then tried to get cute with him, Sugar Ray put him down gently.
During this exhibition match, which took place on a cruise ship the pair were traveling on, the fighters agreed to body shots only, due to an eye injury Leonard was recovering from. But shortly into the contest, the cocky amateur blasts Sugar Ray right to his bad eye and we see in the below video how that goes for him.
Many fighters would have responded in kind and went for the knockout, but instead, Sugar adheres to their original agreement and saves the cocky amateur some brain cells. Check it out in the video below.
