When trash talking boxers get DESTROYED

Wednesday, August 30, 2017

In combat sports, talking trash before the big fight can be used as a way to get in your opponent’s head and get them up riled up as well as for promotional purposes but sometimes it can backfire.

For example, when former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was on top and dominating, her trash talk to her opponents was mostly overlooked and in some instances even applauded. But when she finally lost in devastating fashion all that disrespect and trash talk came back to haunt her and many fans turned on her.

In this video from boxing-focused YouTube channel editinking, we see some similar instances from the boxing world where the fighters who talked a lot of trash before the fight were then subsequently served a dose of humble pie on fight night, albeit forcefully and quite brutally.

The first instance covered in the video below is the fight between heavyweights David Tua and Shane Cameron from 2009. What’s interesting about this particular exchange is that even their trainers were talking trash to each other at the pre-fight press conference.

In this fight, Shane Cameron found out the hard way that pissing off David Tua is never a good strategy in any facet of life. Fighting Tua would be terrifying enough at any point of his career – he was really a frightening, very powerful fighter. So to give him any more reason to cause you harm doesn’t seem like the best strategy I’d reckon.

Check out the video below to see some more instances of trash talking boxers who got starched, including the Mike Tyson vs Lennox Lewis fight.
