The lethal martial arts of Jason Bourne
Jason Bourne is, simply put, a bad ass. He is a man’s man, the epitome of the age-old adage, “the man that all the guys want to be and the girls want to be with”. If you have read any of Robert Ludlum’s books or, more than likely, watched any of the movies it is very easy to see why.
Jason Bourne has a knack for simply being a bad ass, however; the fight scenes employed in the movies are, even though choreographed, rooted with a deep martial arts influence, two martial arts, in particular, Kali and Jeet Kune Do.
Preparation for these films required long hours of brutal training, hard work, and discipline. In fact, to prepare for the films, Matt Damon trained under Kali/JKD expert Jeff Imada who was a student of Dan Inosanto who was one of Bruce Lee’s first and top students.
That lineage alone should prove to you that great measures were taken to ensure that proper executions of real martial arts techniques were employed.
So let’s take a closer look at those martial arts with the first one being Kali.
Kali is also known as Escrima and is the traditional martial art of the Philippines and emphasizes a weapon-based fighting system which utilizes sticks, knives, bladed weapons and various weapons…such as a pen.
Another martial art that is prominent in the movie is the mixed martial art developed by the legendary Bruce Lee: Jeet Kune Do.
