Capoeira demonstration turns into real fight fast

When a person thinks of the term “martial arts”, particularly a person who does not train in the martial arts, they normally think of instructors in pajamas ordering students around in a very authoritative voice while said students respond with rigid movements as they count off each movement in unison.  While the image conjured up in some people’s minds does, in fact, hold true in some martial arts school, the evolution of martial arts is such that where things tend to be much more fluid and much more cerebral.

The evolution of martial arts has, for lack of a better phrase, seen practitioners put the “art” back in martial arts.  The most common way in which a martial arts school can show the public what they are all about is through a demonstration or what is sometimes called an exhibition.

Capoeira Demo Article

These are normally well planned choreographed shows that demonstrate some of the more technical aspects of the martial arts and often include aerial maneuvers and sometimes even live fights that are more or less controlled sparring and is very pleasing to the masses.  These shows are normally very entertaining and when done correctly, serve as an avenue to generate interest in a particular martial arts school thus increasing business and revenue.

As with all things in life, things don’t always go according to plan.  Demonstrations fail and there are hiccups in their execution all the time but one of the worst case scenarios for a martial arts demonstration would have to be what is on full display in the video below so check it out to see how this friendly demonstration went horribly wrong…
