Young Ivan Drago in karate tournament – ends quickly
Ivan Drago, played by Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren, was one of Rocky’s fiercest opponents of the franchise. But did you know that Dolph Lundgren has a legitimate competitive kyokushin karate background in real life?
Kyokushin karate is also known as knock down karate and it is probably the most effective style of karate as it’s focus is on full contact competition. There are also no gloves or protective gear worn in competition in order to emphasize realistic combat.
In this YouTube video we see a young Dolph Lundgren (who played Ivan Drago), competing in a kyokushin championship fight and it does not last long at all.
Much like his fight with Apollo Creed in the film, he makes quick work of his opponent. Though his real life style is quite a bit different than in the movie, it still shares the same brutal and powerful striking ability.
Lundgren ends this contest shortly after it begins with a brutal knee strike to his opponent’s jaw which makes a loud noise and puts him down hard, awarding Lundgren the KO victory.
“If he dies.. he dies.”
