Movie star Idris Elb’s pro kickboxing debut – ends in KO
Movie star Idrissa ‘Idris’ Elba has decided to enter the world of professional kickboxing recently and well, it was a huge success for him.
If you’re not familiar with the English actor here’s a quick summary of his career. Idris Elba has starred in many blockbusters, including 28 Weeks Later, American Gangster, Pacific Rim, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Star Trek Beyond, and many, many others. The Englishman is most known for playing drug baron Russell “Stringer” Bell in HBO’s critically-acclaimed and hit TV series The Wire. Elba is also rumored to be featured in the next James Bond movie.
As you can see, Idris Elba has been quite proficient with his movie career. He is a man of many talents, and his latest endeavor was to work his way into a professional kickboxing bout.
If you think that Elba chose an easy road just because of his movie star status then think again. While most stars getting into martial arts make a big fuss out of it (looking at you, CM Punk) Elba has sharpened his skills in the shadows. Sure, many media outlets have talked about Elba’s new endeavor (he’s a global star after all), but the Englishman worked seriously on his craft without being bothered by the media’s attention.
Idris Elba’s commitment to working on his kickboxing skills has been quite remarkable. He has put his blood, sweat, and tears into it and it certainly showed in his pro debut.
The following footage features a training compilation and Elba’s actual fight that went down in London. You can see that he definitely is no slouch. Elba’s technique, although not being flawless obviously, is rather crisp and his kicks look particularly vicious.
Idris Elba won by KO in the first round. Very impressive for a pro kickboxing debut!
